As a genealogist, you have
probably searched the U.S. Federal Census online. It has been
relatively simple to type in a name and find an ancestor. All of
that has been thanks to individuals who have meticulously indexed
all of the names through 1930.
With the release of the 1940
U.S. Federal Census, you now have a chance to help current and
future genealogists by volunteering to help index the 1940 Census.
It's easy to sign up; simple to do; and there are online tutorials to help you get started. If you have questions on why you should index the 1940 census, read Josh Taylor's findmypast.com blog post at http://findmypastblogus.com/2012/04/02/the-communitys-index/
If you are unfamiliar with how to sign up for indexing, visit https://the1940census.com. When you sign up, you can fill out your preferences in your profile to attach yourself to TSGS as a group member to help other genealogists in Texas.
Indexing is a way to pay back and "pay it forward" for the genealogical community. We hope you'll join us!
