The December 2018 issue of Stirpes includes a detailed article on the Early Texans DNA Database. See that issue once it is published, for more information. The database is now live and can be explored by current and potential project members.

The database is online at https://txsgs.org/TXSGS_DNA/.

Project information is available at https://www.txsgs.org/programs/dna-project/early-texans/.

The application form, which must be completed to be eligible to win free DNA test, is online at https://www.txsgs.org/TSGS/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/TxSGS_DNA_application.pdf.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the project is open to everyone whose ancestors came to Texas by 31 December 1900. Those whose ancestors did not arrive while Texas was a Republic still have DNA that can help us make discoveries about our ancestors!

Anyone who tested at a company other than FamilyTreeDNA (https://www.familytreedna.com/) is encouraged to transfer their DNA data file to FamilyTreeDNA and pay the small fee required to unlock DNA analysis tools. Some analysis may be done for members whose data is on GEDmatch (https://www.gedmatch.com/), but most members are on FamilyTreeDNA.

PRIVACY

To protect project members’ privacy as much as possible while sharing DNA data and analysis, information in the database on twentieth and twenty-first century people is anonymized.

We hope this database will grow into the place to go first when researching Texas ancestors.

Please share photographs and stories of your ancestors when joining the project. Making discoveries based on shared DNA depends on having both the DNA data and the lineage information. The photos and stories bring the ancestors to life. Growing the database can help us all make discoveries about our early Texas ancestors.

All members who have already submitted the completed application form and any member submitting the form by 31 December 2018 will be in a drawing to win a free DNA test. To be eligible for the drawing you must:
