Guokas - Charles Guokas Sr. and Elizabeth Banavicius - Brief bio



Charles Guokas Sr. emigrated from Lithuania to Texas sometime between 1880 and 1886. He married his first wife, Lithuanian immigrant Stefania Jasielonis, in Bremond 10 JAN 1892. They had two daughters who survived to adulthood. By 1895 he had acquired property in Houston's First Ward, where he lived the rest of his life. Stefania died 22 AUG 1899. On 21 JAN 1900 Charles married Lithuanian immigrant Elizabeth Banavicius (or Banaitis). They had six children, five of whom lived to adulthood.  Charles was a fireman with the Houston and Texas Central (later Southern Pacific) Railroad for 48 years, from 1886 to 1933. He died on April 8, 1939.
