Blum - Lydia Blum - Brief bio



Lydia Emma Blum was born in 1863 in Lockhart Texas to parents who had immigrated from Germany, Gottlieb Blum and Auguste Tschoepe. Her parents were married on 31 Dec 1853 in Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas. Lydia was born ten years later into a family with four sisters and one brother. Her father died in 1866; her mother remarried a couple of times. Lydia grew up, married Hermann Laas, and they raised three daughters and a son. She lived a long, productive life of 89 years, contributing to the German and Texas  societies in the latter half of the 19th Century and first half of the 20th Century.
