SUMMARY:19th Annual Genealogy Lock-In; Discover History for Yourself
DESCRIPTION:The Waco-McLennan County Library Genealogy Center\, in cooperation with the Central Texas Genealogical Society\, will host the 19th Annual Genealogy Lock-In in celebration of Family History Month. This event is free\, open to the public\, and takes place Friday\, October 18\, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the West Waco Library & Genealogy Center (5301 Bosque Blvd). \nThis library event showcases the Library’s genealogy collection and provides access to and awareness of area hereditary and historical societies. This is a great opportunity for beginners and experts to pursue their family history and learn more about genealogy in general. Staff and volunteers will be available to help with your research. All library computers will be available for research. The Lock-in will also have snacks and door prizes! Lock-in programming will include: \n\nBeginners’ Class at noon (a Brown bag program)\nEight shared virtual programs from around the country\nHereditary and Historical Societies from around the state\nOne-on-one research help\n\nEarly registration for the Lock-in begins at 9:30 a.m. in the foyer at the West Waco Library & Genealogy Center. Other library facilities will not be available for use after 6:00 p.m. during the Lock-in.  Children under the age of 16 attending the event must be accompanied by an adult. Security is provided in the evening hours. \nA series of eight live streamed programs will be presented in the meeting room from 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.   The programs are provided by the Genealogy Network of Texas (GNT)\, a state-wide initiative to connect libraries/genealogical societies and provide educational and research opportunities that is spearheaded by the Genealogy Center of the Waco-McLennan County Library. Topics covered will include FamilySearch.org\, probate records\, technology enable collaborations\, military records\, GEDmatch\, Mexican research and dating photos. \nFor a complete list of programs\, the visiting hereditary societies\, and other participating libraries\, visit wacolibrary.org or ctgs.org. DESCRIPTION:This year\, the San Antonio Genealogical Society invited the immensely popular Michael Lacopo to speak on a variety of topics that will interest genealogists and family historians of every level. \nMichael is a life-long resident of northern Indiana. He began his genealogical research in 1980. His first published work appeared in 1985 with several books\, journal articles\, and published contributions following. He appeared in USA Today in 2000 and has lectured locally\, regionally\, nationally\, and internationally. Dr. Lacopo has a varied and interesting ancestry and is a self-described “all-American mutt.” Dr. Lacopo has research experience in numerous fields with particular strengths in research involving Mennonite families\, Pennsylvania\, Germans\, and Midwest/Middle Atlantic research (IN\, OH\, IL\, MI\, and PA)\, and genetic genealogy.
