Description:
This course will help attendees research African Americans in the United States through both the Antebellum and Reconstruction eras. Instructors will cover sources, methodology, and strategies for research as well as in-depth case studies.

In particular, the class will discuss:

  • Developing foundational research methods for studying enslaved and formerly enslaved persons
  • Maximizing your research potential using public, private, and academic libraries
  • African American research using DNA
