Lone Star Family Trails Podcast #127 – Galveston & Texas Center, part of Rosenberg Library

Host: Emily Richardson
Guest: Kaitlin Eckmann, Archivist

Do you have an ancestor who entered Texas through Galveston? Or someone who made Galveston home after statehood? If so, this is a must-listen episode.

In this episode, Kaitlin Eckmann, archivist at the Galveston & Texas History Center, part of the Rosenberg Library, shares an overview of the remarkable resources available to genealogists and family historians. She highlights a wide range of holdings, including rare books, historic maps, house histories, and cemetery maps—just a sampling of the research gems housed at the Center.

Listeners will also learn about a newly digitized collection launched in June 2025, featuring select manuscripts, photographs, postcards, and maps documenting Galveston’s rich history. These materials can now be explored remotely, making this an especially valuable resource for researchers who cannot visit in person. Immigration and travel records documenting arrivals through the Port of Galveston are another strength of the collection.

This episode showcases yet another “must-see” historical repository for anyone researching Texas ancestors.
