Patti Lee Hobbs, CG®

Patti Lee Hobbs, CG® with a BA in biology lives in southwest Missouri and works as a professional genealogist. She volunteers as a trustee of the Board for Certification of Genealogists and as a BCG Education Fund trustee and also serves on the editorial board for the National Genealogical Society Quarterly. Patti has taught in several institute courses and is the course coordinator for “Genetics for Genealogists: Beginning DNA” at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research and the Texas Institute of Genealogical Research (TIGR’s) “Foundations in Genetic Genealogy” course to be held in June 2021.  Her article “DNA Identifies a Father for Rachel Lee of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania” was published in the March 2017 issue of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, and she is a contributing author of Advanced Genetic Genealogy: Techniques and Case Studies.

J. Mark Lowe, CG®, FUGA

J. Mark Lowe describes himself as a lifelong genealogist. He is a professional genealogist, author, and lecturer who specializes in original records and manuscripts throughout the South. Mark enjoys opportunities to share what he has learned over the years through YouTube, Webinars, and Institutes.

He serves as the Course Coordinator for ‘Research in the South’ at IGHR (Georgia) and TIGR (Texas), does Webinars for Legacy Family Tree Webinars and has worked on several genealogical television series including Finding Your Past, African American Lives 2, Who Do You Think You Are? and UnXplained Events, and provided content for podcasts on Gimlet Media, including Twice Removed.

Mark has published in the Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly (APGQ), National Genealogical Society Quarterly (NGSQ), the Genealogical Speakers’ Guild SPEAK!, FGS’ FORUM. The Longhunter (So. Ky. Genealogical Society), The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society Quarterly and other society publications. He is a Past President of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), and Past President of the Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society Mark is a Certified Genealogist and a Fellow of the Utah Genealogical Society, and was awarded the Graham T. Smallwood award and Lifetime Membership award by the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Sunny Jane Morton is an internationally-known genealogy educator and award-winning writer and editor. She is best known globally for comparing the world’s top genealogy websites, which she has done with custom content for U.S., U.K., Australian, Jewish and African American audiences. (A 2019 version given for Legacy Family Tree Webinars quickly became its 2nd most-watched webinar of all time). Her lectures are packed with try-this-now strategies and resources—and delivered with humor, humanity, and plenty of motivating examples and stories.

Diane L. Richard

Diane L Richard, Mosaic Research and Project Management (MosaicRPM), www.mosaicrpm.com, has been doing genealogy research since 1987 and since 2004 professionally focused on the records of North Carolina and southern states. She regularly contributes to Internet Genealogy and Your Genealogy Today. In 2019 she published Tracing Your Ancestors — African American Research: A Practical Guide, via Moorshead Publications.  Since 2016 she has been editor of the North Carolina Genealogical Society (NCGS) journal.

As a speaker she has delivered webinars and in-person talks about the availability and richness of records documenting Southerners, pursuing formerly enslaved ancestors and their descendants, genealogical research tips, techniques, tools and strategies, under-utilized resource collections [online and on-the-ground], and much more. She has appeared on Who Do You Think You Are? (Bryan Cranston episode) and The Dead Files (Detox episode).

She is co-leader of Tar Heel Discoveries, www.tarheeldiscoveries.com, started in 2018, which offers guided North Carolina genealogical research programs providing participants targeted, focused, research assistance leading to new family discoveries.

Drew Smith

Drew Smith is the genealogy librarian with the University of South Florida Libraries in Tampa and is the 2016 winner of the Filby Award for Genealogical Librarianship, presented by the National Genealogical Society. A popular speaker at conferences in the U.S. and abroad, he has written extensively for several genealogical print and online magazines. Drew’s books include Advanced Genealogy Research Techniques and Organize Your Genealogy: Strategies and Solutions for Every Researcher. He is the past president of the Florida Genealogical Society of Tampa and has served on the boards of the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the Association of Professional Genealogists, and the Florida State Genealogical Society.  Drew is the host of the Genealogy Connection podcast, and the co-host of The Genealogy Guys Podcast, the longest-running genealogy podcast on the planet. He is a co-founder and content provider of the Genealogy Guys Learn genealogy education subscription website. Drew is one of the founding administrators of The Genealogy Squad Facebook group, with more than 36,000 members.

Michael Strauss

Michael L. Strauss, AG®, is a professional Accredited Genealogist with a nationally recognized speaker. A native of Pennsylvania and a resident of Utah, he has been employed as a Forensic Investigator for nearly 30 years. Strauss has a BA in History and is a United States Coast Guard veteran. He is a qualified expert witness in the courts in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Michael is a faculty member at SLIG, GRIP, and IGHR where he is the course coordinator for all of the military courses taught.

Ari Wilkins

Ari Wilkins, a graduate of Louisiana State University, has been actively researching family history since 1998. Ms. Wilkins has spoken nationally at the National Genealogical Society, Federation of Genealogical Societies, Texas State Genealogical Society, Ohio Genealogical Society, Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, American Library Association, RootsTech, and a multitude of local societies.

Ari has been a Library Associate at Dallas Public Library since 2007.   She teaches a series of basic research classes using popular genealogical websites. She specializes in African American research.
