TxSGS Partner Societies Embrace Virtual Meetings

To date, eleven Partner Societies have taken advantage of the offer by TxSGS to turn monthly meetings, Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings, and board meetings into virtual meetings. The response by the members of these Partner Societies has been extremely positive:

  • “This is a good way to engage members (and future members) who do not live in town and rarely, if ever, can attend meetings.”
  • “I don’t get out in the evenings much, so going virtual is wonderful. With quality programs, the virtual capability will keep me coming.”
  • “I can attend monthly meetings if virtual — I’ve only been able to join weekend sessions in the past — love this option!

Going virtual has a lot of benefits for a genealogy society.

Virtual meetings

  • Maintain the relationship between Partner Societies and their members during a time when physical meetings are difficult.
  • Provide a way to reach out to distance members and those who can’t make meetings because of physical limitations.
  • Show Partner Society members that the society cares about their physical and mental health at this time of social distancing.
  • Offer an opportunity to showcase a wide range of speakers from across the country because of the virtual format.

It’s a great way to take our minds off the coronavirus for an hour!

TxSGS has access to GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, and Zoom for Partner Society member board meetings or general meetings. Not only do we provide the virtual meeting platform as a Partner Society member benefit, we also provide technical support to facilitate the Partner Society meetings. Partner Society presidents or program chairs can request virtual meeting support here. Questions? Email us at webinars@txsgs.org .
