Society Leadership Forum: Program Planning II

A Virtual Event

Files from the meeting

Providing engaging, relevant presentations for general meetings is one of the more challenging aspects of managing a genealogical society. The recent incorporation of virtual meeting capabilities creates both opportunities and challenges. In this session we will:

  • Review national trends in Programming Topics
  • Discussion: Evaluate the effectiveness of some of the recommendations that were presented at our April 2021 Forum.
  • Discussion: The use of questionnaires to help guide future presentations
    • Share results from Speaker Evaluations
    • What worked well, what didn’t
  • Discussion: What makes a good Genealogy Presentation good? Think about presentations on Genealogy or Family History that you have participated in recently and focus on the ones that you feel were really effective. What made them resonate with you? What do you wish all of your presenters would do to be more effective?
  • Review of the results of our survey of agenda items that are being included in society meetings.
  • Case Study: San Angelo Genealogical Society. Society President Susan Ball will provide an overview of how her society is addressing the programming needs of their members.
